汉字五行是怎么确定的？有标准吗？How is a character’s element decided? Is there a standard?
汉字五行没有国家标准或权威字典，各家取名书和网站的说法并不一致。本工具采用两条公开、可复核的传统规则：① 部首法：按康熙部首判断，金、刀、戈、斤、矛部属金；木、艸、竹、禾、米、麻、瓜、糸部属木；水、雨、冫、魚、川、黑部属水；火、日、心、赤部属火；土、山、石、田、阜、里部属土。② 部首无法判断时用字音五音：唇音（b p m f）属水、舌音（d t n l）属火、牙音（g k）属木、齿音（z c s zh ch sh r j q x）属金、喉音（h、零声母、y w）属土。There is no official standard and sources disagree. We use two transparent traditional rules: ① by Kangxi radical — 金刀戈斤矛 → Metal; 木艸竹禾米麻瓜糸 → Wood; 水雨冫魚川黑 → Water; 火日心赤 → Fire; 土山石田阜里 → Earth. ② Otherwise by the five-tone sound of the initial: labials b p m f → Water, linguals d t n l → Fire, velars g k → Wood, dentals z c s zh ch sh r j q x → Metal, glottals h / none / y w → Earth.
康熙笔画尾数五行是什么？What is the stroke-digit element?
三才五格中按数字尾数定五行：1、2 属木，3、4 属火，5、6 属土，7、8 属金，9、0 属水。部分取名资料也用单字康熙笔画的尾数判断字的五行，这里一并列出供对照。In the five-grid method a number’s last digit gives its element: 1–2 Wood, 3–4 Fire, 5–6 Earth, 7–8 Metal, 9–0 Water. Some sources apply this to a character’s Kangxi strokes, so we list it too.
