电脑随机生成一组 4 位（或 5 位）颜色密码。每一行你猜一组颜色，提交后得到反馈：每个黑点代表有一个颜色猜对且位置也对，每个白点代表有一个颜色在密码里但放错了位置。利用这些线索一步步缩小范围，在 10 次以内猜出完整密码就算破解成功。每个颜色上都标了数字，色弱玩家也能区分。The computer picks a secret code of four (or five) colours. Each row you enter a guess and get feedback: every black peg means one colour is correct and in the correct position; every white peg means one colour is in the code but in a different position. Use the clues to narrow it down and crack the full code within ten guesses. Each colour also carries a number, so it is colour-blind friendly.

在 4 位 6 色、可重复的经典设置下，理论上任何密码都能在 5 次以内破解；一般玩家 6–7 次左右。5 位 8 色的组合有 32768 种，会难很多。In the classic 4-peg, 6-colour game with repeats, any code can be cracked in at most five guesses with perfect play; most people need six or seven. The 5-peg, 8-colour mode has 32,768 possible codes and is much harder.
