How to play & FAQ
How do I play Jungle Chess (Animal Chess)?
Each side has eight animals, strongest first: elephant 8, lion 7, tiger 6, leopard 5, wolf 4, dog 3, cat 2, rat 1. Move one square orthogonally; an animal captures one of equal or lower rank, except that the rat captures the elephant and the elephant cannot take the rat. Only the rat swims; the lion and tiger leap across the river unless a rat blocks it. An animal in an enemy trap can be captured by anything. Enter the enemy den or capture everything to win.
Can a rat in the river capture the elephant?
No. The rat captures the elephant only from land, and a rat in the water can only be captured by the other rat in the water.
What are my own traps for?
Traps surround your den. An enemy standing on one of your traps counts as rank 0, so any of your animals — even the rat — can capture it.
Can it be a draw?
If 50 moves each pass without a capture the game is drawn, to avoid endless shuffling.
